In early
2007, my brother and I determined our father could no longer drive a car
safely and was increasingly having difficulty perform routine personal
tasks. I undertook to locate a caregiver who could take him to visit his
friends, grocery shop and appointments with doctors and generally care for
him during part of the day. In
Resources for Seniors I found Visiting Angels. As they say,
the rest is history.
My father’s Visiting Angels caregiver comes Monday through Friday mornings
and delivers the help that he must have to remain in his own home. She
assists him in getting up and going in the mornings and provides him with a
nutritious breakfast. Helping him to maintain contact with his friends has
greatly improved his enjoyment of day-to-day life. Most importantly, she
has formed a bond with him, and he likes her. Her presence is a special
comfort to me because I know that she will alert me to any changes in his
condition and will provide him with compassionate human contact in his 90th
year.
